Analysis:
The impact by Gorbachev was most caused by the "Sinatra Doctrine" which lead to the fall of communism in many eastern European countries like Poland and Bulgaria which was mostly because of popular discontent with the current governments. Some of these countries like Hungary even pushed for democracy. His impact also caused the split of some countries like Czechoslovakia, but also reunified Germany, but also lead to the collapse of the USSR.

Impact of GorbachevIt remained for Mikhail S. Gorbachev to change stuff that would result in the fall of the Soviet empire in Europe. He committed himself to a remaking of the S.U. and to withdraw from the cold war. Gorbachev announced that the Brezhnev doctrine was no longer enforced and that from then on each country would have its own autonomy and the “Sinatra Doctrine” replaced it. The new doctrine led to the collapse of communist regimes in many eastern European countries like:

Hungary. Split of Czechoslovakia and Rumania
- Hungarians torn down the Soviet-style political system during 1988 & 1989.
- In 1990 they held free elections and put their nation on the path toward democracy and a free-market economy.
- In Czechoslovakia a “velvet revolution” restored democracy by 1990.
- The term velvet revolution derived from the fact that little violence was associated with the transfer of power in societies formerly ruled by an iron fist.
- In 1993 disagreements for shifting to a market economy led to breaking Czechoslovakia into the 2 new nations-the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
- In Romania, Nicolae Ceausescu and his government refused to acknowledge the necessity of reform.
- In 1989 Securitate repressed demonstrations and set off a national revolt.
